Secret Coconut Beauty Tips from Pinterest..Shhhhhh

Coconut milk and oil has been heralded as the secret weapon to protecting hair against the meanest heat tools around. And I for one definitely can go into dominatrix mode when getting ready for an evening out (blow drying, flat ironing, curling… oh my!)

So here is my modified secret recipe for super shiny and nourished hair… plus its all natural (no weird additives that no one can pronounce)

  • 1/2 cup of organic coconut milk (go for the full fatty version, you’re hair ain’t on a diet ladies!)
  • 1 heaping tablespoon of honey (I used manuka honey or you can sub in raw honey)
  • 2 tablespoons Apple Cider Vinegar (it will invigorate the scalp)
  • 1 tablespoon of Olive Oil
  • 1 table spoon of Virgin Coconut Oil

 

  1. Combine all ingredients into a plastic microwave safe container
  2. Nuke for 20 seconds or until luke warm
  3. While in shower, pour mix over head and massage into scalp (make sure you hit those split ends)
  4. Pull hair into bun or pin it up, and let mixture soak in for 15 – 20 minutes (it helps to cover hair with one of those cheap plastic shower caps so it doesn’t drip into your eyes)
  5. Rinse out and shampoo/condition as normal

Hair will be silky and de-frizzed. I try to do this every week to protect my curly, unruly hair from the cold fall weather. Feel free to get creative and add a dash of cinnamon.

It’s Nanner time!… Harvest Banana Bread

Well if you didn’t catch my reference to MC Hammer… then its certainly time to make some Harvest Banana Bread! MMMM.. the smell of rich nutty bananany goodness wafting through the halls. This is not a vegan recipe (still working out the kinks)… so hold onto that hater-ade. I will post that soon!


So here is the tried and true recipe below… ENJOY!

Ingredients:

  • 3 ripe bananas
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup almond flour (you can sub all-purpose instead)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup softened butter (room temp)
  • 1 cup cane sugar (white sugar will work too)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon coconut milk (or you can use soy/reg. milk instead)
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/3 cup dark chocolate chips
  • Dash of cinnamon
  1. Coat a 9 x 4 inch loaf pan with cooking spray and lightly dust with all-purpose flour
  2. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F
  3. Mash bananas in a bowl (I used a potato masher… or a big fork will do)
  4. Mix together flour, salt, baking powder, and baking soda with whisk in another bowl
  5. Mix butter and sugar with spatula in a large bowl until creamy & smooth
  6. Stir in mashed bananas and eggs (one at a time, mixing before adding next)
  7. Stir in vanilla extract and milk
  8. Mix in chopped nuts, chocolate chips, and flour mixture until just a few flour streaks remain (don’t overmix)
  9. Pour batter into the prepared loaf pan and tap pan on the counter to release any air pockets
  10. Sprinkle a dash of cinnamon on top of batter
  11. Bake in preheated oven for about 1 hour 15 minutes, or until an inserted wooden skewer comes out clean
  12. Let the bread rest in the pan for 15-20 minutes. Remove from pan and serve!
